How To Cancel Your Match.com Membership

Match.com is the OG of the dating world. It was founded all the way back in 1993 as a project of Electric Classifieds. It went live in 1995, meaning people who met on the site now have kids who graduated from college. Since then, it has experienced periods of rapid growth, intense controversy, and being bought out by several different companies.

You probably started using Match.com in an effort to find your soulmate – or maybe just a hookup. Match.com is one of the biggest players in the industry, and it markets itself as being trustworthy and successful at creating more matches than competitor sites.

WHY YOU WANT TO CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION

Now, perhaps you are one of the people who agrees with askmen.com’s 9.3/10 stars rating for Match.com. You see your matches getting better over time, and you’re happy with the feature-set provided by Match.com. In fact, it’s treated you so well that you’ve found The One. You’re ready to kill the subscription, save some money, and show your new SO that they’re the only one for you.

Or perhaps you agree with consumeraffairs.com’s 1.1/5 stars community-generated rating for Match.com. You’re tired of the higher-than-average monthly cost ($20.99 a month for a 12 month subscription, $23.99 for a six month subscription, $26.99 for three months or $41.99 per month if you go month by month), don’t have patience for the amount of time it takes to get an offline date, or suspect that a lot of the matches are fake.

Either way, you’re ready to cancel your subscription. This tutorial gives you a simple tutorial on how (and when) to cancel your membership to avoid future membership fees.

THE MATCH.COM CATCH
If you sign up for one of the discounted subscriptions, Match.com offer a fixed payment. It also enrolls you automatically into auto-pay. They do tell you this, but it is buried in the small print that nobody reads. So if you want to try it for a month or three, you pay your money and using the site and meeting new people.

What they won’t tell you is that you have to manually cancel your subscription 48 hours before the next billing date or you will continue to be charged. This is a sharp business practice at best, a scam at worst. So if you’ve decided that you want to cancel your membership, you’ll want to do it at least two days before your billing cycle begins so that you won’t get charged for an additional cycle.

CANCEL YOUR MATCH.COM MEMBERSHIP
You can cancel your membership from the Match.com website, via iOS, on your Android phone, or by contacting Match.com directly.

On the desktop site:

Log on to the Match.com website.
Select your account and select “My account settings.”
Select “My subscriptions” and then “Manage my subscription.”
Follow the steps to cancel your subscription.

You should see a message that says “The automatic renewal of your subscription has now been cancelled.” You should also receive a confirmation email. You will still have access to the site until your subscription period is over. Then you will have to subscribe again if you want to regain access.

On an Apple device:

Open Settings and tap “iTunes & App Store” on your device.
Enter your Apple ID and password or Touch ID.
Select “Manage” within Subscriptions.
Select Match.com as the subscription.
Select “Cancel Subscription” at the bottom of the screen and confirm.
On an Android device:

Open the Google Play Store on your device.
Select “Account” from the menu, then “Subscriptions.”
Select Match.com from the list.
Select “Cancel” and confirm.
Using customer service:

You can contact Match.com directly using a web form on their site. Or call them at 800-326-5161 or write to them at Match.com, P.O. Box 25472, Dallas, Texas 75225.

SUSPENDING YOUR MATCH.COM PROFILE
If you want to take a break from Match.com or have found someone you like but want to hedge your bets, you can suspend your account instead. You will need to cancel billing following the instructions above before you can suspend your account.

Log on to the Match.com website.
Select the gear menu icon and select “My account settings.”
Select “To suspend or delete your account, click here.”
Select “Suspend profile” and follow the steps.
This will pause your profile while you explore or relax away from online dating, ready to be re-opened as soon as you need it.

DELETING YOUR MATCH.COM PROFILE
Dating sites don’t like it when members cancel their subscriptions, and they like it even less when they delete their profile. That’s why they make it as difficult as possible to do either. However, there is a way to delete your profile. So if you know for sure you aren’t coming back to Match.com, here is how to permanently wipe out your profile.

You will need to follow the above steps to cancel your subscription, then:

Log on to the Match.com website.
Select the gear menu icon and select My account settings.
Select “To suspend or delete your account, click here.”
Select “To delete your account and permanently remove your profile from the site, click here.”
Confirm that you want to delete your account.
The process is quite simple once you have told Match.com that you are really, really sure you want to delete your account.

It is a seedy move to keep account suspension and deletion separate from one another. They are so obviously linked that you just wouldn’t countenance suspending your account while letting auto-renew keep going. I mean, who has money like that to waste on a website? It is what it is, though, so if you want to take a break from Match.com just make sure to stop the subscription before you do anything else.
